Taking Photographs advice
Light
Light
- A
camera needs light to make sense of the image it sees
- Make
sure the light is behind the camera, not the model
- Make
sure that the model is well lit, not placed in shadows
Shots
- Decide
before you shoot what shot size you need (portrait? Landscape?)
- Remember
that images on posters are often close up – don’t take far away
- Take
a number of shots, including different shot sizes whilst you are working with
your model(s)
Framing
- Check
carefully to ensure that your images are framed properly – don’t cut off the
model’s head, feet etc.
Mise en Scene
- Take
care with the back drop of your image
- Look
at what can be seen in the frame around your model and exclude items as
necessary
- For
example, don’t take a photo with a streetlight or bird table coming out of the
top of your model’s head
- Or,
don’t take a photos with school posters in the background if they are supposed
to be in a club
Trust
- You
will be taking some photos away from the classroom and will be trusted to take
the photos unsupervised
- If
you break this trust you will have to take the photos in supervised conditions
after school
